depression = worry

There are no New Testament uses of the word depression.

Anti-depression drugs are the most prescribed medication in the US.

A synonym for depression is worry.  I thought that there were a lot more than these.  ( I deleted the repeats from other Gospels.)

Matthew 6:25 NLT
"So I tell you, don't worry about everyday life -- whether you have enough food, drink, and clothes. Doesn't life consist of more than food and clothing?

  • "So don't worry about having enough food or drink or clothing.
  • Matthew 6:34 NLT

"So don't worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today's trouble is enough for today.
  • Matthew 7:3 NLT

And why worry about a speck in your friend's eye when you have a log in your own?
  • Matthew 10:19 NLT

When you are arrested, don't worry about what to say in your defense, because you will be given the right words at the right time.

Sorrow is another synonym for depression.  Here is what Jesus had to say about sorrow:

    • Mark 10:38 NLT

But Jesus answered, "You don't know what you are asking! Are you able to drink from the bitter cup of sorrow I am about to drink? Are you able to be baptized with the baptism of suffering I must be baptized with?"
    • Luke 6:25 NLT

What sorrows await you who are satisfied and prosperous now, for a time of awful hunger is before you. What sorrows await you who laugh carelessly, for your laughing will turn to mourning and sorrow.
    • "But the tax collector stood at a distance and dared not even lift his eyes to heaven as he prayed. Instead, he beat his chest in sorrow, saying, 'O God, be merciful to me, for I am a sinner.'
    • Luke 23:48 NLT

And when the crowd that came to see the crucifixion saw all that had happened, they went home in deep sorrow.
    • John 16:22 NLT

You have sorrow now, but I will see you again; then you will rejoice, and no one can rob you of that joy!
